The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has promised medical teachers in civic hospitals that their salary arrears will be paid to them by the end of this financial year.
Representatives of medical teachers from KEM, Nair and Sion hospitals met Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar to discuss their grievances on Tuesday, after which Mhaiskar assured them that their problems would be addressed soon.
Apart from non-payment of their salary arrears, the doctors had also protested against a circular issued on March 29 which
stated that their allowances would be deducted during casual and sick leave.
"The doctors have been promised that they will be considered 'on duty' during leave and paid accordingly.
Their problems have been addressed without any inconvenience to anyone," said Dr Sanjay Oak, dean of KEM hospital who was
also present at the meeting.
The doctors from Nair and Sion had threatened to go on a mass casual leave earlier this week because the municipal corporation had not responded to any of their earlier correspondences.
