The study will be conducted by a panel of doctors from civic hospitals.

The BMC is revising its policy on the installation of mobile phone towers, but it said it can’t impose stricter norms concerning the installation of towers as there is no “conclusive evidence” on the effect of radiation on health, as reported in HT’s December 21 edition.

Manisha Mhaiskar, additional municipal commissioner, admitted: “Over the past decade, there has been a surge in the number of cancer cases. While there are several causes, exposure to radiation could be a significant one.”
