Assistant police inspector Hanumant Mandlik from Sion police station said that when Yusuf Siddiqui returned at 7.30 am with breakfast for his brother Amir, who was being treated for dysentery at the hospital, he found Amir missing.

“While Yusuf had gone out, Amir woke up. When he could not find his brother in the hospital, he changed from the hospital uniform to his regular clothes and left the hospital to look for him. Since he was not wearing the hospital uniform, no one realised he was a patient,” said Mandlik.

Amir kept walking towards south Mumbai. “Two policemen found him loitering around near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and began questioning him. Amir was unable to recollect anything and was handed over to the Dongri Childrens Home,” Mandlik said.

Since Amir was still weak, he was taken to JJ Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Yusuf had approached the Sion police. Since they had heard about Amir being admitted to JJ Hospital, they rushed to the hospital, where they found him. Mohamed Thaver
