Brain-dead 17-year-old’s organs donated at Thane

Sources at the hospital said the teenager was brought to the hospital three days ago with severe head injuries after he met with an accident.

The donor’s father, who runs a stall outside a temple, was moved by the thought that his son’s organs will live forever and consented for the donation, sources said, adding that the family asked for brochures and forms for organ donation as they wished to spread awareness and motivate others to donate.

The teen’s kidney was transplanted in a 50-year-old man who had been on dialysis for six years. The other kidney was transplanted in a patient at Lilavati Hospital, Bandra. The liver was transplanted in a 65-year-old man at Jupiter Hospital, Thane.

Experts said those from the lower strata of the society were more willing to accept the concept of organ donation than the educated rich who still doubt the process.
