RPF Police Inspector Ravi Sharma from Kasara jumped from the moving van, but the CBI officers caught him after a 10 minute chase.
The CBI officers were bringing Sharma to Mumbai in connection with a corruption case on Thursday. According to the CBI, they had received complaints from the hawkers at Kasara station that constable Maruti Tombre used to demand money from them.
On Thursday, they arrested Tombre while allegedly accepting Rs 1, 500 from a hawker.
“We had received a complaint that they used to collect money from the hawkers in and around the station and in the trap Tombre was arrested red-handed while taking money from a hawker,” said CBI Deputy Inspector General Praveen Salunke.
During interrogation, Tombare reportedly told the CBI sleuths that of the total bribe amount Rs 1,000 was for his senior, Sharma.
“Our sleuths went to Kasara and brought him to Mumbai but when the van neared Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Sharma jumped from the running van”, said Salunke.
CBI sleuths too jumped off the vehicle and chased him.
“We have arrested them under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act,” said Salunke.
The Kalyan court has remanded them to CBI custody.
