Sregurupriya A wasn’t surprised that she got a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 10 in her Class 10 results. She was surprised, however, by how the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results were announced without any notice on Sunday evening.
“A friend called me and then I checked at night,” said the RN Podar School student.
On Sunday, the board announced the Chennai region results, which includes Maharashtra. It is likely to announce the results for the other regions this week.
“Students from Kerala had requested for their results for certain applications so we decided to release the Chennai region results earlier,” said Vineet Joshi, chairperson of the board.
The state had a pass percentage of 99.89%, an improvement over last year, but lower than states such as Goa and Lakshadweep with a 100% pass percentage. Maharashtra once again had more students opting for the board exam (26,857) compared to those opting for the school exam (2,746), a further drop compared to last year. This is the third year that the students had the option of choosing the board or the school exam.
Avnita Bir, principal of RN Podar School, Santacruz, said this time there was more transparency in internal evaluations. ''The board had appointed a few centres in every city to verify the assessments of schools in their zone. This has strengthened the continuous comprehensive evaluation system,” said Bir.
Students were given their results in grades, with the scale ranging from A1 to D, and based on the continuous comprehensive evaluation system. This encompasses Class 9 and 10 performances in academic and non-academic areas.
Students who wish to apply for verification of their marks will have to do so within 21 days of the declaration of results.
