“There is a CCTV camera at Churchgate which covers the area where the body was found. This would have shown the people alighting from the train and could have given us crucial leads in the case. But, as the camera was non-functional, it makes things difficult for us,” said Dilip Chauhan, assistant commissioner of police (railway crime). The camera had been non-functional for a few days. More than eight teams have been formed to crack the case. The police will now be asking the porters if they spotted anyone suspicious alighting from the train.

“So far we have not found any missing complaint for the girl but as the murder was committed a few hours before the body was found, we suspect the family of the woman will soon approach the police to lodge a missing person’s complaint,” Chauhan added.
