An alleged Chotta Rajan gang member, Mandar Borkar, arrested in connection with attempting to kill a Dahisar-based bar owner on Tuesday told the court that he was allegedly assaulted by police while he was in custody.

The court has asked the police to file a reply on July 28.
According to police, Rashmikant Vyas alias Lala Seth and his staff members were arrested by police in an alleged riot case with local goon Satya Shinde. Later the police arrested Lala and produced him in the court.
He was released on bail. However, as soon as he came near his car parked outside the court premises, Sathya along with Borkar allegedly attacked him with swords and hockey sticks.
Borkar was arrested on July 22 and was remanded to police custody till Wednesday.
"On Sunday he was assaulted by the police officials and he had to be taken to the Bagwati hospital in Borivili and later to JJ hospital", said Borkar's advocate R B Mokashi adding that after Borkar filed a complaint with the magistrate, the court examined Borkar's body and issued notice to the police.
"Borkar was today remanded to judicial custody", added Mokashi.
However DCP Mahesh Patil denied the allegation and said, "Borkar's allegations are false and the complaint is filed to pressurise the police".
