State home minister RR Patil told the legislative council that the decision was taken because of doubts raised by members. “The matter has been transferred to the CID and anyone found guilty will not be spared,” Patil said. “The probe will also cover any negligence by police officers,” he added.

Two Congress MLCs, Rajan Teli and Husain Dalwai, had raised the issue and blamed the influential people of Hatadi village in Jalna for the incident. Teli alleged that four people including the police patil and village headman raped the minor named Rukhsana. “The police destroyed all evidence by cremating the girl,” Teli said.

Dalwai produced the ashes of the girl in the House, saying, “First they called it a suicide and then a snake bite, which is suspicious.”
