Civic body objects to use of its logo for marathon promotions

Objecting to the use of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) logo on Mumbai Marathon’s promotion material, the civic body has ordered the marathon organisers to remove the logo from all hoardings, banners and posters.
The BMC claiming it gave a false impression of the marathon being an official city event, the civic body has said since it could be misleading, the organisers shouldn't have put it.
MM Adtani, additional municipal commissioner, said, “There is a certain protocol attached to using the BMC’s official logo. Since we have only issued the necessary permissions to the event, we are not officially attached to the event, nor are we supporting it. Hence, the logo shouldn’t be there.”
In hoardings put up opposite the BMC headquarters, the organisers have put the logo, with the title “supported by”.
“By having the civic body's emblem, the organisers are trying to float an impression that it is the city’s official marathon. The fact remains that it is a profit-making exercise for the organisers and hence, the BMC cannot be a part of any such commercial activity, wherein the organisers aren’t even ready to shell out our pending dues,” said a senior civic official.
This isn’t the first time the organisers have used the logo. Adtani said, “My officials told me the logo has been used earlier too. However, now that it has come to our notice, we won’t be allowing any further use.”
An official from Procam International, declining to comment, only said no official intimation of this sort had been received from the municipal corporation yet.
