Dalwai alleged that the paper’s executive editor, Sanjay Raut, had asked suggestive questions.

“Our leader Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of the largest ruling party and even Forbes magazine has ranked her as the 10th most powerful personality in the world. There is demeaning language against her which needs to be condemned,” Dalwai said.

In the interview, Thackeray said Gandhi had done nothing for India and had no political sense like her mother-in-law, Indira Gandhi. He also said that Indians did not deserve a democracy and there should be dictatorship to control them.

Dalwai said the interview used language that insulted Gandhi and womanhood as such. “The government should take them to court for using such insulting language and below-the-belt comments,” he said.

“We fought all the elections under her leadership and it is sad that the Sena is targeting our party in such a manner,” Dalwai said.

Council chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh asked the home ministry to take action in the matter.
