The Social Service Branch (SSB) conducted the raid without informing the Thane Rural police, on orders of the Home Ministry.

Police Inspector Arvind Sawant said waitresses at the bars — Saddle Up, Mili, Millinieum 2000, and Red Horse — doubled as sex workers.

“Angry locals had tipped us about the nuisance,” the police said.

“We also raided nearby guesthouses, where the waitresses hired rooms on an hourly basis for their clients,” he said. “After the raids, the Kashimira police made the arrests,” said a senior police official.
