Crime branch gets custody of gangster

The crime branch obtained the custody of gangster Sachin Khambe in connection with a firing incident at Vakola in 2009 in which a hotelier was critically injured.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said Khambe, who was undergoing sentence in a Bangalore jail after he was convicted in a kidnapping case in Karnataka, was transferred to the crime branch on December 23, 2009.
He is booked under the MCOCA and remanded to custody till Friday. The two assailants who had opened fire on hotelier Krishna Shetty were arrested on October 28, 2009.
Khambe, who had worked for Bahrain-based gangster Ali Budesh and later Subhash Singh Thakur gang, was involved in many cases and , including the attempt on the life of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan in 2000.
