Meena was arrested by CBI’s anti-corruption wing for accepting a bribe of Rs 2.2 lakh. Chartered accountant Umesh Pai who led CBI to Meena was also remanded in police custody till July 14.

According to the remand application, the CBI asked the court to grant them custody of Meena claiming that investigations were on to trace “similar matters, as it has come to light that there are other CAs (chartered accountants) who are Meena’s victims”.

Special public prosecutor BB Badami argued that the agency wanted to question Meena to locate two of Meena’s nephews who also allegedly accepted bribes.

“We are investigating to ascertain whether any other I-T officials received kickbacks from Meena,” Badami said.

Further, CBI stated in their remand application that they found incriminating documents from Meena’s bank locker and that the agency was scrutinising them.

“Questioning Meena is essential to determine the purpose of these documents,” Badami said.

Abad Ponda, who appeared for Meena and Pai, argued that his client had been falsely implicated in the matter.
