Jafari’s is the fourth dengue-related death in the city this year. Doctors said dengue cases usually occur post monsoon and are unheard of in December.

Jafari’s wife Shakila was discharged against medical advice from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri so that she could attend her husband’s funeral rites.

Their daughter, Tasneem, is in the hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit.

Jafari, a tax agent, was admitted to Malad’s Suchak hospital last week, where he tested posit-ive for dengue. Then he was shi-fted to Ambani hospital. “He had dengue shock syndrome and multi-organ dysfunction syndro-me,” said Dr Ram Narain, executive director, Ambani hospital.
