On December 21, Milind Burkhe filed a complaint stating that Vijay Khanolkar alias Vijay Naik, 57, from Dahisar had cheated him and three others of Rs.2.95 lakh by promising them jobs in Air India. The accused allegedly claimed that he worked with the cargo division of the company as a clearance officer.

According to the police, Naik even gave appointment letters and bond papers promising jobs to them. When Burkhe found that the letters were forged, he registered a complaint.

Acting on a tip-off, police inspector Milind Khetle led a trap at Dahisar, where Naik had come to meet someone. During questioning, he confessed to cheating 57 people from Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pune and collectively earning more than Rs.28 lakh. Naik had three criminal cases registered against him.

The police also arrested Naik’s accomplice Mohammed Khan alias Rizwan, 29, from Mahim. They have recovered several appointment letters of Air India, Shipping Corporation of India and rubber stamps used by the accused. The crime branch is looking for more people who have been cheated by the duo. The accused have been remanded in police custody till January 2.
