Minister of state for home Satej Patil on Tuesday ordered demolition of the encroachments.

“I have asked the authorities to remove all illegal structures on the Mumbai-Pune expressway and other major roads in the state,” Patil told HT.

Patil has also suggested educating the motorists.

“We have decided to install public address system at toll plazas of the Mumbai-Pune expressway. We will appeal drivers to control speed.”

The minister said the government will provide heavy cranes (30-tonne capacity) to remove obstacles from the expressway.

“This will help ease traffic. We have also constructed rumblers at the accident-prone spots.”
