The gang members apparently asked the engineer Sanjay Pathak, 35, to ask Shah to contact Pujari. The incident occurred around noon in Vashi’s sector 17 at the Shah Group’s site office, where the construction work on a premium commercial structure is on.
Senior police inspector of Vashi police station, Raosaheb Sardesai, said, “Two unidentified men walked in at the construction site and handed over a letter stating that they are from the Ravi Pujari gang. After handing over the letter, the men then went on to fire three rounds at Pathak, injuring him in the hip, stomach and arm.” Pathak has been admitted to Fortis Hospital. He is said to be out of danger. Added Sardesai, “Both were carrying pistols, but only one fired.”
Developer Nalin Shah said, “I had not received any extortion calls prior to this incident. After the incident, however, an unidentified person called up our main office from a mobile phone, stating that he had just shot at one of our engineers. However, no one has called me directly.”
Four employees present in the office during firing are being questioned.
