Superintendent of police, Thane rural, Ravindra Sengaonkar, is likely to be shunted out as part of the departmental action recommended by IG Konkan Range, following an inquiry into the arrest of two Palghar girls over a Facebook post. The post was critical of the bandh in Mumbai during the funeral of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, last Sunday.

A source in the Maharashtra police HQ told HT on Sunday, that apart from departmental action, the SP is also likely to face administrative action along with the additional SP (Vasai) Sangramsinh Nishandar and the station-in-charge of Palghar police station for the arrests, which were found to have ‘unjustified’ sections applied. The DGP is likely to spell out the action on Monday.
Sengaonkar and Nishandar, sources said, had been indicted for letting the arrest happen despite being advised by headquarters against it. Moreover, the summoning of the girls to Palghar police station at night, in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines, reflected poorly not only on the police station but the SP and his junior in the district, sources said.
