Chintan Mukesh Patel lived in Anand Nagar with his parents, his brother, sister-in-law and their four-year-old son. Patel, who was unmarried and worked with a private firm in Hiranandani, Powai, committed suicide in his bedroom between 2.30pm and 5.30pm when his sister-in-law and her son were watching television in the living room. Other family members were not at home at the time of the incident.
His sister-in-law found him hanging from the ceiling fan when she went into his bedroom to check on him. Patel was rushed to Bhagwati hospital, where he was declared dead at arrival.
“While scanning through his mobile phone, we came across a text message that he had sent to his former girlfriend stating that since she was leaving him, there was no point in him living. So we suspect that he ended his life because of the failed relationship,” said Ansar Pirjade, senior inspector of Dahisar police station. “His family was not aware of the relationship.”
The police are yet to record the family’s statement and have registered a case of accidental death.
