Fliers stranded as fog in north India hits ops at city airport

At least seven flights scheduled to take off from the Mumbai airport were delayed on Friday owing to thick fog in north India. Flights were dela-yed by about 55 minutes in the morning, the city airport operator said.

“Some flights were delayed, but none were cancelled,” said a Mumbai International Airport Limited (Mial) spokesperson. Most of the delayed flights were heading to Delhi and other north Indian cities such as Jaipur.

However, the worst affected were fliers travelling to Mumbai as thick fog in Delhi resulted in closure of both runways at the capital’s Indira Gandhi Inter-national (IGI) Airport. More than 75 flights were delayed as the runway visibility dropped to 50 metres. The minimum visibility required for flight operations is 125 metres.
