Four men arrested for assaulting vendor, tearing woman’s clothes

The accused were later overpowered and handed over to the Powai police station.

The accused four men have been identified as Govind Teli, 19, Babloo Valmiki, 20, Sandeep Chaudhary, 19, and Mahesh Sahilkar, 24.

Police said the incident took place at Marol around 8pm on Thursday, where four accused threatened Agar Khan, 27, a roadside vendor, with a knife and ordered him to pay them Rs. 5,000. The four then allegedly beat up Khan and snatched Rs. 5,000 from him.

“While the scuffle was going on, some locals who were present, including a woman, tried to intervene. The four men turned around and manhandled the locals and during the course of the scuffle, tore the clothes of the woman who intervened,” said B Bhosale, senior inspector of Powai police station. This enraged others who then overpowered the accused and informed the Powai police.

An officer from Powai police station said the four had created nuisance in the area in the past as well. The accused have been booked for robbery and outraging modesty of a woman.
