FYJC admission: Only 23,000 applications received online

Registrations to First Year Junior College (FYJC) seats are off to a slow start. According to figures provided by the deputy directorate of education, Mumbai region, only 23,000 students have registered for admissions as of Monday.

The process to fill admissions forms online began on fyjc.org.in/Mumbai from May 15. Even though most of the boards, barring SSC, have announced their Class 10 results, only 23,000 students, including those from the state, CBSE, ICSE and IGCSE, among other boards, have applied so far.

For the first time this year, the department had asked all students, which could be close to four to five lakh, to mandatorily complete the admission formalities – filling the application and option forms – online. This has been done so that students get a unique identification number, which will be used to track their admission status.

Worried that the website will crash if all the students register at the last minute, the directorate has urged students to apply before the SSC exam results are declared. “We appeal to non-state board students who have got their results to fill both the application and option forms, while others should at least complete the registration process,” said BB Chavan, deputy director of education.

Chavan said they are unsure how much capacity the server will be able to handle. “Since this is the first time we have asked FYJC aspirants to mandatorily apply online, we do not know whether the server will be able to bear the load of all students applying simultaneously,” said Chavan.

Schools said many students have not even collected the admissions manual, which contains the login information. “The rush for applications will begin once the admission deadline looms closer and students are back from vacation,” said Uday Nare, teacher, Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri.

SSC results date not yet declared

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) issued a circular on Monday requesting students not to believe in rumours circulating that the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam results will be declared on Tuesday.

“The board has not yet declared the dates for the SSC result. Some websites have posted result dates using the board’s logo and these posts have become viral on social media. We request students not to believe them,” said Krishnakumar Patil, secretary of the board, in the statement issued on Monday evening.

The statement said that the board will announce the dates of the results through an official email and in newspapers well in advance.
