Techfest - the annual technological festival of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) will feature exhibits, games, competitions, performances and a lecture series from January 3 to 5. More than 50 exhibits will be on display, brought from different parts of the world.
The event will also host a lecture series comprising of a many luminaries including Nobel Prize winners Amartya Sen (who won for Economics in 1998) and Ei-ichi Negishi (who for Chemistry in 1996) and Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to be in outer-space.
Sharma will speak on ‘Should India Invest In A Manned Space Programme?’ The lecture series will also host Jocelyn Goldfein, the director of engineering at Facebook, who introduced the concept of news-feeds on the site.
The tech fest will also feature multiple competitions and workshops, night-time performances by international magicians, as well as a “silent disco”.
Besides IIT-B, Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) will also be hosting Technovanza which will exhibit exciting new devices from January 6 to 8.
Exhibits, put together by students, include Blind Navigation, a contraption strapped on to the body to help the visually challenged navigate their environment; Car Automation, a device that keeps drivers from sleeping; and the Agriculture Automation that helps farmers measure temperature and humidity.
