“Creating effective mechanisms against social discrimination are policy matters within the domain of the legislature and otherwise within the domain of the society itself,” a division bench of the Bombay high court observed on Thursday, while dismissing PILs filed by members of the Bhoi community from Ratnagiri and Gaud Saraswat Bramhins from Pune.

The bench disposed the petitioner’s PILs, which allege that they were facing social boycott for marrying outside their respective communities and sought intervention by the state machinery to end the harassment meted out to them.
