Some ICSE parents had moved the high court because the benefit of giving grace marks was only available to state board students.

"It's good that ICSE sportspersons will also get 25 extra marks that will put them on par with SSC sportspersons," said Harshit Dua, a student of Bhakti Vedanta School at Juhu.

Those who have played sports at the state, national or international level will be eligible for the extra marks.

"We will have to call the children back to school tomorrow since they have already filled their forms today," said Dr C Pathak, principal of HVB Academy at Marine Lines.

But not everyone is convinced.

"While it's fair to give the same leeway to students from both boards, it's uncalled for on the whole," said Dr Kirti Narain, principal of Jai Hind College at Churchgate.

"It seems that students who don't play a sport will now be at a disadvantage."
