According to the police, the incident took place around 2am on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday night, while his family members were asleep, the accused went up to his daughter and allegedly started sexually assaulting her. The woman raised an alarm, which alerted the neighbours and he was caught,” said Mahipati Pandharmise, senior inspector, Kandivli police station.

The footpath dwellers then handed him over to the police. The accused was arrested and booked under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code.
