The Parksite police, investigating the murder of the 67-year-old eunuch, have not ruled out the involvement of someone from within the community.

When Asha Ansar, alias Gopiamma, was murdered on Friday, her followers alleged that a builder, who was at loggerheads with Ansar over a plot of land in Mulund, was behind the murder.
Deputy commissioner of police, (Zone 7) S Shintre said, “ We are investigating if someone from the community is behind the murder for some personal reason. We are also checking if the builder is involved. Investigations are on and it would be too early to come to any conclusion.”
An officer from Parksite police station talking on condition of anonymity since he is not authorised to talk to the media said, “Ansar was the chairman of the All India Hijra Community. We are investigating if Ansar was murdered in connection with the post of chairman held by the deceased. Whoever holds the post has access to a lot of power in the community and is an enviable position.” The officer added three persons were detained in the case.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon when four unidentified persons entered Ansar’s residence at a BMC chawl in the Parksite area of Vikhroli (West). The accused allegedly were armed and threatened three other eunuchs. They then strangulated Ansar with a wire and fled the spot. Ansar’s maid Salma found her body and alerted the others. A case of murder was registered.
