Konkan Railway services were affected for the second day by the heavy rains on Sunday night because of a landslide at Pomendi between Ratnagiri and Nivsar. Train services were delayed further after a boulder fell on a retaining wall, which in turn fell on the railway tracks on Monday.

Ten trains were cancelled, eight trains were diverted and passengers of four trains were transported in 50 private and Maharashtra State Regional Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses.

They were transported between Ratnagiri and Nivsar via road- route ahead of which they could board trains for their respective destinations.

“Affected services are likely to be inordinately delayed. Around 25 poclains and 150 labourers have swung into action and are removing the sand and water from the tracks,” said Siddheshwar Telugu, chief PRO, Konkan Railway.

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited had to be prepared for monsoon claiming that they had spent around Rs25 crore on geo-safety work such as putting steel fences on the hills to prevent boulders from collapsing on the tracks and building retention walls along the tracks on the entire stretch.
