MERC nod for pre-paid meters

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved Mahavitaran’s pilot project of pre-paid power meters.

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved Mahavitaran’s pilot project of pre-paid power meters.

The company will install first 600 such meters at its employees’ residences. From the consumer’s perspective, the prepayment may help them know energy consumption and induce control of energy use.

In this system, the consumer pays the amount in advance and the balance account is debited for the amount of energy used in the previous month. When the entire units purchased have been consumed, the supply will get disconnected automatically.
