MNS attacks bars for hiring women

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) members smashed the windowpanes and doors of two bars employing women to serve liquor in Panvel on Thursday evening.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) members smashed the windowpanes and doors of two bars employing women to serve liquor in Panvel on Thursday evening.

MNS party workers along with at least 100 locals of Kon village in Panvel attacked Koyal Bar and Night Riders situated close to each other.

The MNS claimed it was supporting the local villagers who are opposed to the bars.

Police say the attack was politically motivated.

The bar management was not available for comment.

Local MNS leader Suresh Sawant, said, “The villagers had vehemently opposed the ladies service which started at Koyal bar on Wednesday. They approached us and we decided to take action.”

Night Riders was attacked because it also has women serving liquor, party workers said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankush Shinde, said, “The bar belongs to a local villager. This attack was politically motivated.”
