Mom throws kids off 19th floor, jumps

Nidhi Gupta, 31, got her daughter Mihika, 3, and son Gaurav, 6, ready for school on Tuesday and left home with them at 8.25am — just like she did everyday. But instead of taking the lift down, she climbed to the 18th floor, walked up a floor and from the 19th floor gallery, threw her children to their death before following them.

Nidhi, a chartered accountant and guest lecturer at a college, left a note saying no one was to be blamed for the deaths.

Nidhi lived with her husband Pawan, 35, their two children, Pawan’s brother, his wife and her in-laws in a ninth floor flat in the 21-storey building.

“I had tea with her around 7.30am and she seemed normal,” said Sunita, Nidhi’s sister-in-law. “There has never been any quarrel in the family.”

“Nidhi tossed Gaurav off the gallery first. She then flung her daughter before jumping herself. She landed on the iron boundary of the garden and two rods pierced her waist,” said a police officer. The three were rushed to hospital but in vain.

The police have registered a case of murder against Nidhi.
