Mudslide at Haji Ali: Residents meet CM on FRI

Residents of the Vellard View building, which was badly affected in a mudslide on Monday, approached chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday seeking financial help in the construction of the retaining wall and the building.

However, the CM met only Mangal Prabhat Lodha, local legislator of Haji Ali area. "It was a natural mishap and not the residents' fault. The CM said he will look into it," said Lodha.

"An official from the CM's office said since we come from a plush area, we may not get help," said Atul Parekh, chairman, Vellard View.

Chandrashekhar Oak, collector, island city, said, "Mhada authorities say since it is a private property, the government will not fund its construction."
