Mumbai: Desilting work is on track, says BMC

As the deadline for the completion of pre-monsoon work nears, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities on Saturday visited various nullahs in Mumbai to check the status of desilting work.

As the deadline for the completion of pre-monsoon work nears, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities on Saturday visited various nullahs in Mumbai to check the status of desilting work.

Civic chief Ajoy Mehta paid a visit to nullahs in the western suburbs such as Mogara nullah, Oshiwara nullah, Irla nullah, among others.

Mehta also checked the status of the road work at areas such as JVPD Andheri, Goregaon (West), Mith Chowkie, Malad.

According to the report released by the civic body, 56% of the desilting work at major, minor nullahs and Mithi River has been completed, almost meeting its expectation of 57% till May 13.

The civic body has to remove 3,59,644 cubic meters of silt from 3,28,425m of major and minor nullahs.

The BMC, however, has cleared 1,96,140 cubic meters of silt till May 13.

The BMC has also completed 56% desilting of the Mithi River, by removing about 96,615 cubic meters of silt from the 23,545-m long river.

The civic authority claimed 100% desilting work will be completed before May 31.
