Mumbai gang-rape: 600-page chargesheet filed

The Mumbai police crime branch on Thursday filed chargesheet in esplanade court against four accused in the gangrape of 22-year old photojournalist at Shakti Mills compound in Mahalaxmi on August 22.
Chargesheet against the 17-year-old was filed before Juvenile Justice Board because he is a minor.
The chargesheet was filed within a month of the incident. The chargesheet is close to 600 pages and there are over 80 witnesses.
The four accused are Kasim Bangali, Salim Ansari, Siraj Khan and Vijay Jadhav. The four accused along with juvenile were identified in the test identification parade (TIP) by the survivor and her colleague. The DNA tests have also matched.
The survivor and her colleague had gone for photography assignment at Shakti Mills, when the five accused gangraped her and tied up her colleague.
The case was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (punishment for rape), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intent) and 377 (unnatural offences).
