The child was allegedly kidnapped on December 14, while she was sleeping with her parents, who are rag-pickers, on a footpath near Sion circle. On Thursday, locals informed the cops about a decomposed body under the Sion flyover.

The police reached the spot with her parents, Abdul Karim Shaikh, 25, and Chandini. “The face of the girl had not decomposed completely. The post-mortem report will give us a clear picture on the cause of the death and also if she was subjected to sexual assault,” said Ashok Dudhe, deputy commissioner of police, zone 4.

The police are looking at various angles, including the suspected involvement of the father, who has been repeatedly changing his version on how the child was kidnapped.
