The family said they had hoped that Naquee would be released on bail in the fake SIM cards case.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, his uncle Umar Farooque said they would study the case under which Naquee had been booked. “We still maintain that Naquee is innocent and he has no previous criminal case against him,” claimed Farooque.

His uncle said if the Delhi police had earlier claimed that Naquee worked for them, then why was he now being termed an anti-national. “Doesn’t the Delhi police work for India?” he questioned.

He further alleged that Naquee was being made a scapegoat by the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) because the real perpetrators of the crime had escaped.

“The ATS will have to answer for framing Naquee in the case,” said Farooque adding, that the family had faith in the country’s justice system. “We know the truth will come out soon enough.”
