Voicing the issues related to naxal-affected areas, MLAs from Gadchiroli and Gondia demanded a special authority for the four districts.

Namdeo Usendi (Congress) said that the development of the districts has taken a backseat as the financial and administrative powers are at the headquarters in Mumbai.

Minister of state for finance Rajendra Mulak said that the district planning committee and district rural development authority have said that no such independent body was required.

The elected representatives from the treasury and opposition benches protested against the stand. Sensing the mood of the House, speaker Dilip Walse-Patil directed the government to take a positive stand for development of the area.

Chavan then announced the constitution of the authority.
