The Matunga police investigating the dacoity that took place on Tuesday afternoon have, for the moment, ruled out the involvement of the two house-helps working at the flat where the incident happened.
Five unidentified men had gained entry to the third floor flat in Shanti Nivas building and made way with Rs 5000 in cash and valuables whose worth is yet to be ascertained. The dacoits tied up the three persons present in the house before fleeing with the booty.
The police initially suspected the role of the two house-helps. “However, as interrogations progressed, it became clear that the duo had no role to play,” said police inspector S Sawant from Matunga police station.
“The building does not have a watchman and there is no CCTV camera in the building. Also, no one saw the dacoits enter or exit the premises. We are preparing sketches of the accused based on the description given by the victims”, said an officer from Matunga police station requesting anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media.
