The reason behind the accident was not immediately confirmed. This is the second major disruption in the Central Railway (CR) suburban section this year. There were also reports attributing the mishap to decoupling of two coaches.

In February this year, seven coaches of a 12-car local train on its way to Kalyan were separated. The separated bogies travelled a short distance before coming to a halt between Diva and Kopar stations around 6.20 pm.

Thursday’s mishap caused inconvenience to several suburban commuters as train services were hit for more than 30 minutes. “I usually take one hour to reach Dombivali from Dadar, but on Thursday, it took me two hours. The trains were running almost an hour behind schedule,” Dombivali resident Ravi Jadhav said.
