One dead in BEST bus mishap

One person died and five others were injured when a BEST bus rammed into them after the driver lost control. Police say the deceased was a rag picker.

The bus driver, Rashid Patel, also sustained minor injuries. “The driver was arrested and has been admitted to hospital," said assistant police inspector, Sanjay Marathe.

DD Chowdhury, an eyewitnesses, said the driver of bus No 498, plying between Borivli station and Chandivli, was trying to overtake a vehicle and lost control, ramming into the rag picker at Patanwadi near Reliance office on WE Highway. The bus then collided with a Sumo injuring five pedestrians.

BEST sources said the driver lost control after a man abruptly crossed the road. General manager of BEST, OP Gupta, confirmed the incident.
