Teachers and staff in civic schools could face action if they are found eating paan or gutka and spitting in the school premises.

The issue was discussed at the civic education committee meeting on Thursday.
Education Committee Chairman Rukimini Kharatmol said: “I visited the newly-made Park Site school and saw the walls had paan stains. I was told the staff and teachers were responsible for this. Hence, we have asked the administration to take appropriate action against those who spit and dirty the premise.”
“These things will instil a sense of discipline among the staff. They can eat paan, gutka at home, but not on the civic school premises,” she added.
BMC Chief Education Officer Abasaheb Jadhav said: “The administratioin has been directed to take action against such teachers. We will issue a circular in and take it forward. Teachers should not be doing such things as they are supposed to be role models.”
Kharamol added the stage and other rooms also had paan stains. “It is time to discipline the teachers for once.”
