Sajjad Mughal, 22, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, allegedly killed Purkayastha, 25, daughter of an IAS officer, on August 9 after she fought back when he tried to rape her. Mughal was earlier charged with trespassing and murder.

Day-to-day trial in Keenan-Reuben case
Mumbai: A fast-track court will hear the Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez murder case trial on a day-to-day basis from January 15.

Keenan, 24, and Reuben, 29, were stabbed near a betel shop in Andheri on October 20, 2011, while trying to protect their female friends from a group of men harassing them.

HC upholds life term to 5 for gangrape
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat HC on Thursday upheld the life imprisonment awarded by a sessions court to five persons who had gangraped a 24-year-old woman at a city hotel, where her boyfriend had lured her, after a New Year party in 2003.

The woman had committed suicide on January 7, 2004, a week after her boyfriend, Sajal Jain — son of a Delhi-based businessman — and his friends had raped her.
