The child was brought to the hospital on Tuesday.
“The child may not have been abandoned. His parents were with him but they are missing since Wednesday evening. They may even come back. In any case, we have alerted our security and informed Sion police and have requested them to look into the matter,” said Dr Avinash Supe, dean of Sion Hospital.
The family hails from Raigad while the child was born in Palghar. Instances of babies, especially girls and those with serious medical conditions, being abandoned at civic and state-run hospitals are not uncommon. In some cases, parents do return to the hospital to claim the baby after a few days.
