Bheda’s wife, Aruna, had lodged a complaint with the Vashi police station on March 13, stating that there was no trace of her husband after he left home at 11am that day. The Vashi police registered a case of kidnapping against unidentified persons.

Bheda and Lakhan Bhaiya, who police claim was a Chhota Rajan gangster, had been allegedly picked up by the police on November 11, 2006, from Vashi. Gupta was killed at Nana-Nani Park in Versova, in what the police claim was an encounter headed by dismissed encounter specialist, Pradeep Sharma.

Following a complaint by Ramnarayan Gupta’s brother, Sharma and 21 others were arrested and charges were framed against them.
