Polling begins for Maharashtra Legislative Council

Polling to fill in vacancies from the local self-government bodies to the Maharashtra Legislative Council began here this morning.

Polling to fill in vacancies from the local self-government bodies to the Maharashtra Legislative Council began in Mumbai Friday morning.

Apart from Mumbai, bypolls are also being held at Solapur, Kolhapur, Akola-Washim-Buldhana, Ahmednagar, Nagpur and Nashik divisional graduates constituency.

In Dhule, Congress corporator has been elected unopposed.

In Mumbai, Leader of Opposition in the previous Assembly Ramdas Kadam, who was defeated in the recent Assembly polls, has been fielded by the Shiv Sena while Congress has nominated Bhai Jagtap, who also lost the Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, BJP has fielded Madhu Chavan even though the party has only 29 corporators and is banking on division of works in the Congress ranks.
