Vidya Chavan and Bhaskar Khursange, both NCP corporators representing wards in the western suburb, alleged that potholes on city roads showed the corruption in the civic body.

Chavan demanded that the BMC should compensate the people who suffer from spondylitis or spinal cord problem because of travelling on pothole-filled roads. She said: “The civic vigilance department should inspect the road work.”

According to Khursange bad roads was the nexus between the civic official and contractors.

Congress senior corporator Avtarsingh Sokhi said, “No official inspects the quality of road after filling of pothole. No standard procedure is followed while filling up the pothole.”

Sokhi pointed out that there was no need to be an expert to understand the basic standard procedure of filling up pothole.

Congress corporator Vinod Shekhar raised the point in the civic general body meeting. The civic administration however assured that potholes would be clear in the next seven days before Ganeshostav festival.

Meanwhile the CM Ashok Chavan instructed the BMC to improve the road condition. An official who attended the meeting said he that Chavan took a meeting just to get an overall update on the infrastructure of road, FOB’s, bridges.
