Plans to beautify the 120-year-old Powai lake were made four years ago by the civic body.

However, residents and environmentalists protested against the plan because the original plan focused on concretising areas close to the lake.
The revamped waterfront has a retaining wall and a jogging track stretching across 2 km. It also houses a nature park with shrubs, flower beds, trees, lawns with pathways, seating arrangements, a children’s play area, viewer’s dock, apart from toilets and water fountains.
Three fountains with water jets have been built in the park and one of them is a musical fountain. Music is also a part of the jogging track and pathways with speakers mounted on poles.
The cost of the project had increased from Rs 16 crore to Rs 40 crore in phases.
However, the lake is yet to be completely desilted.
