A 77-year-old priest was found dead with multiple stab injuries at his ashram in Vasai village on Thursday morning.

The victim, Peter Bombacha, had been residing alone at an under-construction house at Bambholi at Vasai (west). He retired from St Peter’s Church ten years ago and started his own group. He held prayers on the ground floor of the house and resided on the first floor, which was under construction.
According to the Vasai Gaon police, the incident was discovered early morning around 6.35 am. “The body was discovered by visitors who came down to offer prayers with the victim in the morning.
They usually met Bombacha on the ground floor every day, but when they could not find him, they climbed up to the first floor thinking he was in his room. They found him lying unconscious in the lobby near his room. He had been bludgeoned,” said Deepak Deoraj, deputy superintendent of police, Thane rural.
“There were four stab injuries all over his body and there was a scissor in his mouth. A rope was found around his neck,” said Police Inspector, Rajendra Naik.
The police said the victim had visitors to his room daily.
