In a decision likely to change the face of municipal education in the city, the civic standing committee on Wednesday cleared a proposal that calls for handing over the reins of the management of civic schools to private organisations.

From the coming academic year, schools which have seen drastic dropout rates in the past few years will be handed over to such organisations in a phased manner

The private organisation managing a civic school will have the right to decide on the curriculum of the school, and to recruit its own teaching staff.
